Dallas Police Probe Shooting of Mentally Ill Man

Surveillance video showing a Dallas police officer shooting a mentally ill man standing still about 20 feet away contradicts the assertion of an officer that the man threatened his safety by lunging at him with a knife.

Bobby Gerald Bennett remains hospitalized after being shot in the stomach Monday. The officer who shot him, Cardan Spencer, is on indefinite administrative leave pending a criminal investigation after a neighbor released surveillance video that captured the incident.

Bennett was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant, but Police Chief David Brown announced Friday that the charge would be dropped.

Bennett's mother, Joyce Jackson, said in an interview Friday that her 52-year-old son has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and that he was off his medication at the time of the shooting. Jackson said she was arguing with Bennett when she called the police. She was told that officers who have been trained in dealing with the mentally ill would arrive to assist her.

The officers arrived outside her southeast Dallas home around noon to find Bennett sitting on a

Pre-work Craze Supplement Ban Continues!

Giant online marketplace eBay is the latest retailer to halt sales of the sports supplement Craze in the wake of a USA TODAY investigative report.

The huge online marketplace eBay is the latest retailer to stop selling the popular sports supplement Craze in the wake of a USA TODAY investigative report.

"eBay is in the process of removing all listings as they are in violation of our policies. This ban reflects eBay's commitment to creating a trusted and safe marketplace," spokeswoman Kari Ramirez said Monday. She said the action was due to "recent findings" that Craze contains amphetamines, but would not elaborate.

USA TODAY reported on July 25 that tests by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, a government-affiliatedlab in Sweden and industry competitors have found amphetamine-like compounds in samples of Craze. Driven Sports, the company that makes Craze, says the product is a safe and legal all-natural dietary supplement that does not contain amphetamines.Driven Sports says its own tests show the product is clean.

I-STOP law in effect in New York state

What’s it mean? A new state law kicked in Tuesday aimed at preventing prescription drug abuse in New York.

The Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing (I-STOP) Act requires physicians to consult a real-time online database before writing prescriptions for certain controlled substances. The database is designed to cut drug abuse for opioid pills and narcotic painkillers, among the most abused drugs.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who first introduced the legislation in 2011 and was passed unanimously by state legislators last year, said in a media release the database gives medical professionals with the information necessary to detect doctor-shoppers and better serve patients at risk of addiction.

“Illegal trafficking in prescription drugs poses an enormous danger to the public,” he said. “I-STOP has already started reducing the supply of opioid painkillers on the street, even before mandatory verification took effect. Now, New York is leading the nation in the fight to protect the public from the devastating consequences of prescription drug abuse. ”

The database, also accessible to pharmacists, will also help prevent potentially dangerous drug interactions.

But some doctors won’t be able to begin using the system for another two months.

Daryl Hannah Reveals Her Autism Struggle

A Hollywood star who once dated John F. Kennedy Jr. certainly seems like the type of person who'd love the limelight, but this was not the case for Daryl Hannah. In an interview with People magazine, the 52-year-actress-turned-activist opens up about her struggle with autism and the impact it's had on her Hollywood career. She tells the magazine that she was diagnosed with the condition as a child, but did not disclose it to movie producers. "I've never been comfortable being the center of attention," she says. "It's always freaked me out." Often, Hannah would refuse to do promotional talk show appearances ahead of her films, which she says "was not because I was above it, but because I was terrified." "I wasted so much time scared, self-conscious and insecure," she says. But as an adult, the Splash star says she's "learned a couple of things that really would've made my life easier if I'd known them 20 years ago." And while her main focus these days seems to be her environmental activism, Hannah admits when it comes to acting, shes "definitely not being offered the greatest roles in the world." But that's no reason to mope. As she puts it, "Life is too short to stress the small things anymore."

Drinking regularly to calm nerves

This is an interesting thread going on right now at psychcentral.com. It raises an interesting question is any drinking ok or must we consider it all bad? I'd love your comments here on this blog and if you care to at the forum too! Here is the first post..
so I don't really feel as though i am abusing anything right now...but I know I need to be careful when I do drink cause i can easily go too far.

Last night I went out and drank and got drunk for the first time in a while and it was fine. I didn't feel too poorly about that.>

but tonight I am dealing with some stressful situations and I opened up a can of beer from my basement freg. I don't intend to have any more then this...so I am moderating myself.
but I have a sense of guilt about it since I am using it to clam my nerves. I think I am working with the knowledge that I know this has been an issue for me in the past and I am trying very hard to just be mindful of that and not lose I guess the sense of control.

Realization It's All About Me!

I have a conscience, or more accurately a inner compass. I feel happy, sad, angry, hateful, greedy, anxious, fearful, shame, embarrassment, but no guilt or empathy. What am I?

I share some borderline traits, splitting, rage, abandonment issues but am far from needy or clingy and I would never self harm nor am I suicidal. What am I?

I share some traits from Paranoid Personality Disorder, but not to the extreme of believing everyone is out to get me or conspiracy fantasies. What am I?
I do have grandiose feelings and feel some level of entitlement, and yes I do feel I'm better then some people. I love to get admiration, respect, and positive attention. What am I?

I don't take criticism very well, am jealous of some people, hate others, am very judgmental. What am I?
I feel the need to be in control and always be 100% fully functional, what am I?

Capitol Suspect, Suffered Post-Partum Depression

Very sad indeed! It's sad how people can snap at any time!

A woman killed by police today after a high-speed chase through Washington, D.C., that led to a lockdown of Capitol Hill suffered post-partum depression following the recent birth of her daughter, the suspect's mother told ABC News
No one seen this coming. How could they? There is no way unless she talked to some one about it.

The woman was identified as Miriam Carey, 34, a dental hygienist from Stamford, Conn., authorities told the woman's family, according to a family spokesman.
Authorities said the woman led police on a chase down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol after ramming a gate at the White House.
Authorities described Carey has having a "mental illness."
"She had post-partum depression after having the baby" last August, said the woman's mother, Idella Carey.
She added, "A few months later, she got sick. She was depressed. ... She was hospitalized."
Carey had a 1-year-old daughter named Erica, her mother said. Police confirmed that a 1-year-old girl was taken from the car and put in "protective custody."

She fit right in at work! No outwardly signs some thing was wrong!

Dr. Steven Oken, her boss of eight years, described Carey as a "non-political person" who was "always happy."
"I would never in a million years believe that she would do something like this," he said. "It's the furthest thing from anything I would think she would do, especially with her child in the car. I am floored that it would be her."

Who Is Sam Vaknin And What Is He?

I think if you've ever done any searches on YouTube for Narcissism or Borderline you ran in to some of his videos. He certainly is very opinionated and one may think he is actually a Doctor in Psychology. He is not. He is a self-proclaimed Narcissist and I have my doubts but will give him the benefit of the doubt. So then what is he? Good question. According to Wikipedia Sam is a Israeli writer who spent a little time in a Israeli jail for stock fraud and did 18 months. He mostly writes about Narcissistic Personality Disorder where he does seem to have a little knowledge on the subject, however when he dabbles in other Personality Disorders one quickly realizes this is no doctor. Nevertheless he is a good writer and holds his own ok on his videos.

In all fairness to Sam, he does have a pretty good understanding of Narcissism. I can't say if he is one or not. In one video that is a documentary style video he claims to be one. If you comment any thing critical on in his youtube videos it will never get published lol. Only the positive comments show up.

My only complaint is he uses the term psychopath and sociopath very loosely and assigns it to Borderline people too. All I can say is sure give his videos a watch but hold of on any conclusions until you see actual professional work on the subjects he covers. The bad thing about youtube is any one can post a video and usually they have no idea what they are talking about with Personality Disorders. Most of them are just repeating horror stories they heard or venting from a bad relationship they were in. At least with Sam Vaknin your getting some valid information about Narcissism  Just be careful because he really does use the terms psychopath and sociopath very liberally lol.

Do Not Demonize Personality Disorders!

I have read many articles and stories over the Internet from various bloggers and so-called experts and professionals all speak on Personality Disorders. In particular they will all demonize Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Warning everyone to stay away from people like that, they have no empathy are not capable of caring, are monsters with no feelings. I find it odd that those who accuse us of no empathy themselves show no empathy towards us! They place everyone in these PD's in the same cookie cutter mold. How can professionals not be aware that not everyone is the same? And that we do feel and hurt too? Well I can assure you this blog will not be demonizing any PD's!

What's coming soon here

I will be posting articles and stories related to mental health and drugs with support resources very soon. I am in the works of getting every thing together right now and hope to begin by tonite.

What does guilt feel like?

It's weird but I recently came to the realization I never really feel guilt. I feel shame, fear of being discovered, embarrassment, but not guilt. I thought long and hard think of something I might feel guilty about, and it's not like I had a short list either. Yet every time I came up with some thing I would analyze it and discover it was not guilt I was feeling, but either shame or embarrassment or fear of it ever being discovered.

I never really thought about it before, but it's very interesting, I don't even know what guilt feels like. Perhaps it's for the best because I might just be over whelmed with it if I could feel whatever guilt is! I don't think I want to ever feel it.

Hello World!

This is merely my first post as a test, I will be posting regularly very soon!
