Who Is Sam Vaknin And What Is He?

I think if you've ever done any searches on YouTube for Narcissism or Borderline you ran in to some of his videos. He certainly is very opinionated and one may think he is actually a Doctor in Psychology. He is not. He is a self-proclaimed Narcissist and I have my doubts but will give him the benefit of the doubt. So then what is he? Good question. According to Wikipedia Sam is a Israeli writer who spent a little time in a Israeli jail for stock fraud and did 18 months. He mostly writes about Narcissistic Personality Disorder where he does seem to have a little knowledge on the subject, however when he dabbles in other Personality Disorders one quickly realizes this is no doctor. Nevertheless he is a good writer and holds his own ok on his videos.

In all fairness to Sam, he does have a pretty good understanding of Narcissism. I can't say if he is one or not. In one video that is a documentary style video he claims to be one. If you comment any thing critical on in his youtube videos it will never get published lol. Only the positive comments show up.

My only complaint is he uses the term psychopath and sociopath very loosely and assigns it to Borderline people too. All I can say is sure give his videos a watch but hold of on any conclusions until you see actual professional work on the subjects he covers. The bad thing about youtube is any one can post a video and usually they have no idea what they are talking about with Personality Disorders. Most of them are just repeating horror stories they heard or venting from a bad relationship they were in. At least with Sam Vaknin your getting some valid information about Narcissism  Just be careful because he really does use the terms psychopath and sociopath very liberally lol.

  1. I love how he claims to be a psychopath when he is very clearly a narcissist who is simply idealizing himself as something he merely glorifies. Not that there is anything innately wrong with psychopathy -- just his unhealthy fascination.
